What is GINZA RASIN Premium Quality?
“Getting models which production has already been discontinued”
“Getting them for a lower price”
“Using the same budget to buy a higher-grade watch”
With more of these demands, the market of second-hand watches continues to expand.
However, perhaps many customers feel anxious about buying second-hand products
in terms of quality like scratches on their exterior or their mechanical conditions?
This is precisely why we want you to know about GINZA RASIN Premium Quality!
We perform meticulous maintenance on second-hand watches after their arrival, so that you can use them with
confidence.
This time, we are presenting the flow of maintenance that makes our “Premium Quality”.
STEP.1
Second-hand products are mainly from “buying-in from wholesalers”, “auctions for merchants”
and “purchasing from individual customers”.
Rather than selling all watches retail, we perform maintenance on them, and sell at retail, only
pieces that could meet the strict production quality criteria we established internally.
STEP.2
We check how watches that arrived, operate as well as their degree of accuracy.
Checking basic functions of course, like the winding crown operation and hand movement, as well as
other functions like the calendar disk switch, chronograph, GMT, we also use a dedicated timing
machine to check the degree of accuracy and the balance swing angle.
Along with these, we check the condition of the exterior. In addition to scratches, dents and color
fading, we carefully check the state of any hand shift, hand rust, corroded dial, chipped glass,
twisted bracelet.
STEP.3
Our watch service engineer opens the back cover with a dedicated tool and inspects the condition of
the movement.
“Inspection” is more than a single process and requires many items to check.
“Are there any wheels or parts that are unclean or chipped?” “Is there sufficient lubricant
remaining?”
“Is there seem to be any remains of lubricant?” and many other things to check.
The movement is a little more than 3 centimeters at most.
Looking at detailed components like rubies and pallet jewels, our service engineers exert their skills
during this process.
And if during this inspection inside a piece, any defect is detected, like insufficient lubricant or
poor accuracy, then that piece will need to be overhauled.
On quartz watches, in addition to replacing batteries, we also closely check the electrical properties
of the circuits and if there is any residual magnetism.
STEP.4
Pieces found to be defective when being inspected inside, are overhauled. An overhaul is a complete
process of disassembling and cleaning the movement, lubricating it anew, and reassembling it. We
disassemble each and every part and component that were meticulously designed. Detailed
components are rewashed using a brush. And we reassemble them all the way they were, lubricating each
of them and making sure there is no strain nor shift…
This is also a process during which our service engineers exhibit their abilities
An overhaul is essential for a watch to be a favorite piece for a very long time. We believe it is not
too much to say that an overhaul performed by experienced watch service engineers breathes new life
into the watch.
STEP.5
We proceed to the finishing in the order of checking scratches, then disassembling the exterior,
prewashing, removing scratches, polishing, cleaning, and reassembling. We first check the position and
depth of the scratch. Then we take the movement out, and other parts like the belt, the bezel, the
glass and the push button.
And after ultrasonic cleaning to remove the dirt on disassembled parts, the polishing process begins.
We start with using a rough buff to eliminate scratches, then polish afterwards, for each type of
finishing like hairline and specular finish.
Once polishing is done, we perform an ultrasonic cleaning to remove all the dirt that adhered while
polishing.
Once cleaning is over, we dry out all moisture, then the assembly is all complete.
Exterior polishing enables the watch to retrieve the shiny appearance it had when brand new. We also
proceed to a waterproof test. In addition, if there are noticeable scratches on parts that cannot be
polished like the glass, we replace them all with brand new ones.
STEP.6
Once all processes for maintenance are complete, one more step remains to reach Premium Quality. We
proceed to a strict final inspection before displaying the watch in the store. We check the watch once
again, how it operates and how accurate it is, as well as the condition of its exterior.
At that time, for customers buying online, we prepare a text describing what kind of maintenance it
went through, and the scratches it may have.
STEP.7
As products are displayed in stores, we protect them with a special vinyl wrapping to avoid the
unlikely event of being damaged.
We make sure it is a very thin and untwisted wrapping so that the watch does not lose its original
form and texture.
STEP.8
Only “Premium Quality” watches that went through this meticulous maintenance process, are ready to be
in the hand of the next customer.
And rest assured that even when displayed in stores, they are handled carefully by professionals!
Watches we handle at GINZA RASIN are all genuine.
We have several long-career appraisers with us, responsibly appraising the authenticity of each product.
Please rest assured we do not handle any counterfeit items.
